My old Friday ritual was a long list of unfinished tasks. It was accurate, but it made the week feel smaller than it had been. The list missed the conversation that went well, the difficult thing I learned, and the afternoon when rest was the right decision.
I still need a plan, so I ask four questions now. What moved forward? What took more energy than expected? What can wait? What would make Monday easier?
A useful review should leave you clearer, not merely busier.
The fifteen-minute version
- Write down three things that actually happened.
- Choose one open loop to close or consciously postpone.
- Prepare the first small step for next week.
The last question matters most. A clean desk is pleasant, but a clear first step is kinder. When Monday arrives, I can begin with a sentence rather than a search through old tabs.
There will always be more to do than fits into a week. The review helps me remember that the week also contained a life.
